Application Requirements

• Applications must be submitted online
• Applicants should submit one complete set of the following materials:
  • Completed application form
  • Current curriculum vitae
  • Essay using the following guidelines (essays will not be returned):
    • Must be typed, double-spaced using a standard font
    • Maximum length of 3,500 words and no more than five figures/tables
    • Only deceased persons may be subjects of biographical papers
  • Letter attesting to eligibility criteria and identifying award category
  • Maximum 200-word abstract
  • Letter from a faculty sponsor detailing the extent of technical or financial support received, the student's individual contribution to the project, and verifying that the student was the major contributor to the project.
  • Contributorship statement that provides clarification of the specific contributions made regarding idea generation, drafting and manuscript preparation, data collection, data analysis, and manuscript editing. A statement must be provided for each author if more than one is listed.

Although applicants may apply for only one of the Medical Student Essay Awards, the review workgroup has discretion to move applications for consideration into another category, if applicable.

If still eligible, applications may be resubmitted in subsequent years; however, updated documentation and letters should be provided.
